My name is Luke Muszkiewicz, and I am running for Montana House District 79. Born and raised in Helena, I live in HD 79 with my wife, Virginia, and our family. I work as a software engineer and data analyst, and when the sun is shining, I love to backpack, camp, float, and ski.

I served on the Helena school board for six years and my primary reason for running for the Montana legislature is to advocate for public education. With schools in Helena and across Montana struggling with substantial budget deficits, we need to reevaluate the state funding formula and the resources provided to our students, our educators, and our schools. Our local property tax payers cannot continue to bear the burden; our state must provide its fair share. In 2025, we will have a once-in-a-decade opportunity to study the issue and recommend changes to the school funding formula. I understand school finance and will fight to uphold our constitutional obligation to provide free quality education to all Montanans.

In addition to public education, I will act as a faithful guardian of the Montana Constitution and a strong advocate for the Montana Democratic Party Platform. I am committed to preserving our rights to privacy, public land access, and a clean and healthy environment. Renewal of Medicaid expansion, property tax relief, and affordable housing are critical issues in need of unwavering support in the next session. I remain disheartened by the legislative assault on the LGBTQ+ community and the proposals to restrict abortion and reproductive healthcare. We must stand together to provide health, safety, and opportunity for all Montanans.

I am eager to engage with the residents of HD 79 to understand their priorities for the next legislative session. I certainly have a lot to learn. I believe we can protect the quality of life we cherish in Helena and work towards an even better Montana in the future.
